✯Question✯

  • Solve the equations with substitution method.

➺ 3x - y = 23

➺ 4x + 3y = 48

✮Solution✮

  • Let 3x - y = 23      -  (i)
  • Let 4x + 3y = 48   -  (ii)

➺From (i), we get:

  • 3x - y = 23
  • y = 3x - 23       -  (iii)

✬Substitute y = 3x - 23 in (ii):

➺ 4x + 3(3x - 23) = 48

➺ 4x + 9x - 69 = 48

➺ 13x = 48 + 69

➺ 13x = 117

➺ x = ¹¹⁷⁄₁₃

➺ x = 9

✭Substitute x = 9 in (iii):

  • y = 3(x) - 23
  • y = 3(9) - 23
  • y = 27 - 23
  • y = 4

➸ x and y are 9 and 4 respectively

✵Verification✵

  • 3x - y = 23
  • 3(9) - 4 = 23
  • 27 - 4 = 23
  • 23 = 23
  • L.H.S = R.H.S
