Solution:-

5x + 4y = 4 .......(i) eq

x - 20 = 12y .......(ii) eq

Now substitute (ii) eq , we get

x - 20 = 12y

x = 12y + 20 ...........( iii )

Put the value of (iii) on (i) eq

5x + 4y = 4 .......(i) eq

5( 12y + 20 ) + 4y = 4

60y + 100 + 4y = 4

64y = 4 - 100

64y = - 96

y = - 96/ 64

y = - 24/16 = - 3/ 2

Now put the value of y on (iii) eq

x = 12y + 20

x = 12 × - 3/2 + 20

x = - 18 + 20

x = 2

Answer:- x = 2 and y = - 3/2

Answer:

x = 2      y = -3/2

Step-by-step explanation:

5x + 4y = 4

x - 20 = 12y  => x = 12y +20

5(12y + 20) + 4y = 4

60y + 100 + 4y   = 4

64y                     = 4 - 100

y                         = -96/64

y = -3/2

x = 12( -3/2) + 20

x = 6(-3) + 20

x= -18 + 20

x = 2
