Given Equation is x^2 + 1/x^2 = 23.

x^2 +  \frac{1}{x^2} + 2 = 25

(x +  \frac{1}{x} )^2 = 25

(x +  \frac{1}{x} ) =  \sqrt{25}

(x +  \frac{1}{x} ) = 5

Hope this helps!
