2x-y=5 --------- (1)

and

x+3y=6----------(2)

multiply (2) by 2 and (1) by 1

then,

2x-y= 5-------(3)

2x+6y=12------(4)

now (4) - (3)

we get

7y = 7

y= 1

now substitute y= 1 in (1)

2x-1 = 5

2x=6

x= 3

therefore

x=3 and y=1
