Let 1/x = u and 1/y = v

So, the given equations becomes

15x + 2y = 17 ……………(i)

x + y = 36/5………………(ii)

From equation (i) we get,

2y = 17 – 15x

y = (17−15x)2(17−15x)2 …………(iii)

Substituting (iii) in equation (ii) we get,

x + (17−15x)2(17−15x)2 = 36/5 2x + 17 – 15x = (36 x 2)/ 5 [after taking LCM] -13x = 725725 – 17 -13x = -135135 ⇒ x = 1515 ⇒ u = 1x1x = 5 Putting x = 1515 in equation (ii) ,

we get 1515 + y = 365365 ⇒ y = 7 ⇒ v = 1y1y = 1717

The solution of the pair of equations given are u = 5 and v = 1717 respectively...
