We are given the equation,

2x + 1 = x - 3

i.e. 2x - x = -3 - 1

i.e. x = -4.

Thus, we get the solution of the equation is 'x= -4'.

Hence, on the number line, this will represent the point -4, whereas on the co-ordinate plane, it will represent the vertical line x= -4 parallel to y-axis.
