first we will multiply second equation by five
we will get 10x+5y=25
add first equation from second
10x+5y=25
3x-5y=24

13x=49

Given,

3x - 5y  = 24 .........................................(1)

and,

2x + y = 5

Multiplying  by  5

10x + 5y  = 25 ................(2)

Adding  both equations,

3x - 5y + 10x + 5y = 24 + 25

13x =  49

x = 49/13

Putting  x = 49/13 in equ 2x + y = 5

2×49/13 + y = 5

y = (65 - 98)/13

y = -33/13
