Answer:

a) (x+3)(x-3) = 40

using identity (x+y)(x-y)=x²-y²

x²-(3)²=40

x²-9=40

x² = 40+9

x²=49

x² = 7²

x = 7

b) 3 = 2x+8

3-8 =2x

2x = -5

x = -5/2

Step-by-step explanation:

(a) (x+3)(x-3)=40

Solution= using identity :-

(a+b) (a-b) =a2-b2

The value of a=x, b=3

(X)2-(3)2 =40

X2-9 =40

X2=40+9

X2=49

X=underoot 49

X=7

(b)3=2x+8

Solution = 3=2x+8

3-8=2x

-5=2x

X=-5/2answer
