To solve this equation we use application of inverse Trigonometric function

sec \: 3x = - 2 \\

taking  {sec}^{ - 1}
both sides

 {sec}^{ - 1} (sec \: 3x) = {sec}^{ - 1} ( - 2) \\ \\ 3x = {sec}^{ - 1} ( - sec \frac{\pi}{3} ) \\ \\ 3x = \pi - \frac{\pi}{3} \\ \\ 3x = \frac{2\pi}{3} \\ \\ x = \frac{2\pi}{9}
