GIVEN:-

To solve the equation with substitution method,

y = 2x - 4 and 3x + y = 11.

SOLUTION:-

Let y = 2x - 4 ....(i)

3x + y = 11 ...(ii)

By putting the value of y from the equation (i) in (ii) equation . we get,

3x + ( 2x - 4 ) = 11

3x + 2x - 4 = 11

5x - 4 = 11

5x = 11 + 4

5x = 15

x = (15/5)

x = 3.

And , putting the value of x = 3 in equation (i).

we get,

y = 2x - 4

y = 2×3 - 4

y = 6 - 4

y = 2.

So, from above solution it is clear that the value of x = 3 and y = 2.

For verify, put the obtained value of x and y in both equation.

y = 2x - 4.

2 = 2×3 - 4

2 = 6-4

2 = 2 (verified)

and 3x + y = 11

3×3 + 2 = 11

9 + 2 = 11

11 = 11 ( verified )
