${x}^{2} - 8x + 9 = 0$
such that , a= 1 , b = -8 & c =9

now , D = b^2-4ac
=>D = 64-4×1×9 = 64 - 36 = 28

now , by quadratic formula

$x = \frac{ - b + - \sqrt{d} }{2a}$
=>x = 8 +- √28/2

=> x = 8 +2√7/2 or 8-2√7/2

=> x= 4+√7 and 4-√7
