Hey Mate!!

x - 2y = 1

=> x = 1 + 2y ......(1)

x + 2y = 5 .......(2)

By substituting (1) in (2),

1 + 2y + 2y = 5

=> 1 + 4y = 5

=> 4y = 5 - 1

=> 4y = 4

=> y = 4 ÷ 4

=> y = 1

By substituting y in (1),

x = 1 + 2y

=> x = 1 + 2(1)

=> x = 1 + 2

=> x = 3
