solve the equations 2x + Y is equal to 3 and X + 3 Y is equal to -1​

2x + y = 3 \\ x + 3y =  - 1

Multiply 2nd eqn. by 2

2x  + y = 3 \\ 2x + 6y =  - 2

now substract both eqn

 - 5y = 5 \\ y =  - 1

subs y in enq 1

2x + ( - 1) = 3 \\ 2x = 3 + 1 \\ 2x = 4 \\ x = 2
