$5x - \frac{5}{2}x = - 8 - \frac{9}{2}$

$\frac{10x - 5x}{2} = \frac{ - 16 - 9}{2}$

$10x - 5x = - 16 - 9$

$5x = - 25$

$x = \frac{ - 25}{5}$

$x = - 5$
