x² - 10x + 9 = 0

Subtract 9 from both sides:

x² - 10x = - 9

Add (b/2)² to complete the square:

x² - 10x + (10/2)²  = - 9 + (10/2)²

x² - 10x + (5)²  = - 9 + (5)²

Complete the square:

(x - 5)² = - 9 + 25

(x - 5)² = 16

Square root both sides:

(x - 5) = ±√16

(x - 5) = ±4

Apply zero product property:

(x - 5) = 4 or (x - 5) =- 4

x = 4 + 5 or x = -4 + 5

x = 9 or x = 1

Answer: x = 9 or x = 1
