let a/x be u and b/y be v.

So, 3u-2v=-5-----(1)

u-3v=6----(2)

multiply 3*(2)

so, 3u-9v=6

Therefore

3u-2v=-5

3u-9v=6

-11v=-11

v=1

Substitute v=1 in (1)

3u-2*1=-5

3u=-5+2

u=-3/3=-1

Therefore a/x=u=-1 and b/y=v=1.

So x=-1 and y=1.
