It shows that for a candle to burn oxygen is required and without a continuous supply of oxygen into the container i.e as the container is closed, all the oxygen in the container is used up and converted into CO2(carbon dioxide). Hence after some time, the fire is put off due to lack of oxygen which is required for the fire to keep in burning.
