Solve the following

1. The ages of Sonu and Monu are in the ratio 7:5. Ten years hence, the ratio of these

ages will be 9:7. Find their present ages.

2. The numerator of a rational number is 3 less than the denominator. If the denominator

is increased by 5 and the numerator by 2, we get the rational number ½. Find the

rational numbers.

3. Shiv is twice as old as Het. If 6 years is subtracted from Het's age and 4 years added to

Shiv's age, then Sunita will be four times Het's age. How old were they two years ago.?.

Answer:

1 ) Let ages of Sonu is 7x and age of Monu is 5x

Step-by-step explanation:

After 10 years

Monu's age = 5x+10

Sonu's age = 7x+10

ATQ (According to Question)

7x+10 + 5x+10 = 9x + 7x

12x + 20 = 16x

12x-16x = -20

-4x = -20

x = -20 /-4

x= 5

Sonu's age = 7x = 7(5) = 35

Monu's age = 5x = 5(5)= 25

2) Let the denominator be x

Then Numerator is x-3

ATQ

x-3+2 = 1

x+5 = 2

(x-1)2=x+5

2x-2 = x+5

2x -x = 2+5

x = 7

Numerator= x-3 = 7-3 = 4

denominator= x = 7

3) Let Hets age be x

Then Shiv's age is 2x

ATQ

Het's age = x-6

Shiv's age= 2x+4

Sunita's age = 4(x-6)

Two years ago =

x-6-2+2x+4-2+4(x-6)-2 = x-6+3x+4+4(x-6)
