17 - 3x = 2(1 + x) \\ = 17 - 3x = 2 + 2x \\ = 17 - 2 = 3x + 2x \\ = 15 = 5x \\ = x = \frac{15}{5 } \\ = x = 3
x= 3 is the answer.....
