Subtracting both equations,
-ny-my=m²-n²-2m²
y(-n-m)=-m²-n²
y(-n-m)=-[(m+n)(m-n)]
y(-n-m)=(-m-n)(m-n)
y=(m-n) [cancelling -m-n on both sides]
x+y=2m
x+m-n=2m
x=2m-m+n
x=m+n
