x+y=4 .......eq 1

2x-y = 5 ......eq 2

adding eq 1 and eq 2

or , x+y = 4

or , 2x-y = 5

or , 3x= 9

therefore x = 9÷3 = 3

substituting the value of x in eq 1

x+y = 4

or ,3+y=4

therefore y=1
