solve the following equation by quadratic formula
 5{x}^{2}  - 8x - 4 = 0

x ^ 2 - 4x + 2 = 0 a = 1, b = -4, c = 2

x = (- b plus/minus sqrt(b ^ 2 - 4ac))/(2a)

x = (- (- 4) plus/minus sqrt((- 4) ^ 2 - 4(1) * (2)))/(2(1))

x = (4 plus/minus sqrt(16 - 8))/2

x = (4 plus/minus 2sqrt(2))/2

= 2(2 + √2) 2

x=2 pm sqrt 2 .
