=> 2x^2 + 4x = 8

=> x^2 + 4x/2 = 8/2

=> x^2 + 2x = 4

=> x^2 + 2x + 1^2 = 4 + 1^2

=> x^2 + 2x + 1 = 4+1

=> x^2 +2x + 1 = 5

=> (x + 1)^2 = 5

=> x+1 = +√5 and -√5

=> x = +√5 - 1 and x = -√5 - 1
