Given:

  • A quadratic equation is given to us.
  • The equⁿ is x²-5x-10 = 0.

To Find:

  • The values of x .

Answer:

The given quadratic equation to us is x²-5x-10=0.

Here the discriminant -4ac = 5²-4×1×-10 = 25+40= 65. And 65 is not a square of any number , hence rhe roots will Irrational conjugates.

We would find the roots using Standard formula , which is -b±b²-4ac/2a .

=> x = -(-5) ± √(-5)² -4×1×-10/2×1

=> x = 5 ± √25+40/2

=> x = 5 ± √65/2

=> x = 5/2 ± √65/2.

=> x = 5+65/2 , 5-65/2

Step-by-step explanation:

  • x^2 + 5x - 10 = 0
  • x = -b (+/-) √b^2 - 4ac........(1)
  • a = 1

b = 5

c = -10

  • substituting the values of a,b,c in (1)
  • x = -5 (+/-) √(-5^2) - 4×1× -10
  • x = -5 (+/-) √25 + 40
  • x = -5 (+/-) √65

1. x = -5 + √65

x = -5 + 8.062

x = 3.062

2. x = -5 - √65

x = -5 - 8.062

x = -13.062

values of x = 3.062 and -13.062
