Answer:

x = 10

Step-by-step explanation:

 \frac{x - 1}{3}  =  \frac{1}{4} (x - 2) + 1

 \frac{x - 1}{3}  =  \frac{1}{4} x -  \frac{1}{2}  + 1

 \frac{x - 1}{3}  =  \frac{1}{4} x + \frac{1}{2}

Now, LCM of 3, 4 and 2 is 12 So, we need to multiply both sides of the equation by 12.

 \frac{1}{3}  \times 12 (x - 1)=  \frac{1}{4}  \times 12x +  \frac{1}{2}  \times 12

 \frac{12}{3} (x - 1) =  \frac{12}{4} x +  \frac{12}{2}

4(x - 1) = 3x + 6

We still have parenthesis, so we need to distribute 4 between the parenthesis.

(4 \times x) ( 4 \times -  1) = 3x + 6

4x - 4 = 3x + 6

4x - 3x = 6+ 4

x = 10

Hope it helps you
