3x - y = 7  \:  \:  \: ..........1\\  \frac{x}{2}  + y = 7 \:  \:  \: ..........2 \\add \: 1 \: and \: 2 \\ 3x - y  +  ( \frac{x}{2}  + y) = 7  + 7 \\ 3x - y  +   \frac{x}{2}   + y = 14 \\ 3x -  \frac{x}{2}  =14 \\  \frac{6x  + x}{2}  = 14\\  7x = 14(2) \\ x =  \frac{28}{7} \\ x = 4 \\ now \: put \: the \: value \: of \: x \: in \: 1 \\ 3(4) - y = 7 \\ 12 - 7 = y \\ y = 5
