a) 2 ( x + 4 ) = 10
( 2 X x ) + ( 2 X 4 ) = 10 ( using distributive property of multiplication over addition )
2x + 8 = 10 ( solving the equation further )
2x = 10 - 8 ( transposing +8 to RHS and making it -8 )
2x = 2 ( solving the equation further )
x = 2 / 2 ( transposing 2 X to RHS to make it /2 )
x = 1 ( solving the equation )

For x = 1, 2 ( 1 + 4 ) = 10 is the solution to the equation.
