Answer:

(a) \: 3(x + 6) = 4(2x - 8) \\ \\ = > 3x + 18 = 8x - 32 \\ \\ = > 3x - 8x = - 32 - 18 \\ \\ = > - 5x = - 50 \\ \\ = > 5x = 50 \\ ( - \: and \: - \: cancelled) \\ \\ = > x = \frac{50}{5} \\ \\ = > x = 10 \\ \\ \\ (b) \: 3 + \frac{x}{3} = \frac{x}{2} \\ \\ = > \frac{9 + x}{3} = \frac{x}{2} \\ \\ = > 2(9 + x) = 3x \\ \\ = > 18 + 2x = 3x \\ \\ = > 2 - 3x = - 18 \\ \\ = > - x = - 18 \\ \\ = > x= 18 \\( - \: and \: - \: cancelled)

hope it helps :)
