a) x/2 + 1 = 2x/5 - 3/2

1 + 3/2 = 2x/5 - x/2

2+3/2 = 4x-5x/10 ( solved by lcm)

5/2 = -x/10

5*10 = -x*2

50 = -2x

50/-2 = x

-25 = x

b) x/2 - 5 = x/3 + 1/2

x/2 - x/3 = 1/2 + 5

3x-2x/6 = 2+10/2

x/6 = 12/2

x = 6*6=36

c) 5(-y + 1 ) = -8

-5y + 5 = -8

-5y = -8 - 5

y = -13/-5

y = 13/5

d) p - p/4 = 7/2 + p/4

p - p/4 = 7/2 + p/4

4p-p/4 = 7/2 + p/4

3p/4 - p/4 = 7/2

3p-p/4 = 7/2

2p/4 = 7/2

2p*2 = 7*4

4p = 28

p = 28/4

p = 7
