ANSWER,
a)x+4=1
x=1-4
x=-3 is ans
b)p/3=-8
p=-8×3
p=-24 is ans

c)y-9=3
y =3+9
y=12is ans

d)17x=-85
x=-85÷17
x=-5 is ans

e)12x=12
x=12/12
x=1 is ans

SOLUTION :

(a) x + 4 = 1

⇒ x + 4 - 4 = 1 - 4 [ adding -4 to both sides ]

⇒ x = -3

x = -3 is the solution of the given equation (x + 4 = 1)

________________________________

(b) p/3 = -8

\bf { \frac{p}{3} \times } = -8 × 3 [ Multiply both sides by 3 ]

⇒ p = -24

p = -24 is the solution for the given equation ( p/3 = -8)

________________________________

(c) y - 9 = 3

⇒ y - 9 + 9 = 3 + 9 [ Adding 9 by both sides ]

⇒ y = 12

y = 12 is the solution of the equation (y - 9 = 3)

________________________________

(d) 17x = -85

\bf { \frac{17x}{17} } =  \bf { \frac{-85}{17} } [Divide both sides by 17 ]

⇒ x = -5

x = -5 is the solution of the given equation (17x = -85)

________________________________

(e) 12x = 12

⇒  \bf { \frac{12x}{12} } =  \bf { \frac{12}{12} }  [ Divide both sides by 12 ]

⇒ x = 1

x = 1 is the solution of the given equation (12x = 12)
