Answer: 1. x = 1/2 or x = 0.5      2. x = 2/3

Step-by-step explanation: To find the value of x, we must simplify the equation down until we have only letters on one side and numbers in the other.

As this is an equatin we must do this to both sides to keep it balanced.

2(x - 1) + 2(3x - 1) = 0

get rid of the parenthesis:  2x - 2 + 6x - 2 = 0

group the like terms:  8x - 4 = 0

+4:  8x = 4

divide by 8:  x = 1/2

x = 1/2 or x = 0.5

next equation (follow the same rules as the last one.)

4(x - 1) - (2x - 5) = 4

get rid of the parenthesis:  4x - 4 - (2x - 5) = 4

+4:  4x - (2x - 5) = 8

-4x:  -(2x - 5) = 8 - 4x

get rid of the parenthesis:  -2x - -5 = 8 - 4x

cancel out the minus’:  -2x + 5 = 8 - 4x

+4x:  2x + 5 = 8

-5:  2x = 3

divide by 2:  x = 2/3

Hope this helps.
