Step-by-step explanation:

5x + 9 = 5 + 3x

5x - 3x = 5 - 9

2x = -4

x = -2

check :-

put x = -2

L. H. S = 5x + 9

= 5(-2)+9

= -10+9

= -1

R. H. S = 5 + 3x

= 5 + 3(-2)

= 5 -6

= -1

L. H. S = R. H. S

hence verified

\huge{\boxed{\mathcal{SOLUTION}}}

It is given that,

5x + 9 = 5 + 3x

Now,

let's bring the same variables on one side.

So when we bring 3x to the left side the sign changes to minus.

And when we take 9 to the right side the plus sign converts into minus.

5x - 3x = 5 - 9

2x =  - 4

Here,

5 - 9 = - 4 ; it is because 9 is greater than 5 so we have to look the sign of the greatest number.

9 is greater and has minus sign so the answer will also have minus sign.

x =  \frac{ - 4}{2}

x =  - 2

Hence,

The required answer is -2

\huge{\boxed{\mathcal{Verification}}}

L. H. S

5x + 9

5 (-2) + 9

-10 + 9

R. H. S

5 + 3x

5 + 3 (-2)

5 - 6

-1

Hence,

L. H. S = R. H. S

So, Verified.
