a.We use trial and error method,

5p+2=17

Put, p = 0

5 (0) + 2 = 17

=> 2 ≠ 17

Put, p = 1

5 (1) + 2 = 17

=> 7 ≠ 17

Put, p = 2

5 (2) + 2 = 17

=> 12 ≠ 17

Put, p = 3

5 (3) + 2 = 17

=> 17 = 17

Hence p = 3

b.We use trial and error method,

3m − 14 = 4

Put, m = 0

3 (0) − 14 = 4

⟹ − 14 ≠ 4

Put, m = 1

3 (1) − 14 = 4

⟹− 11 ≠ 4

Similarly check for p = 2,3,4,5,6

So, for p = 6

We get,

3 (6) − 14 = 4

⟹ 4 = 4

Hence m = 6
