Solve the following inequality:

5x-3 < 7, when:

(i) The variable(x) is an integer.

(ii) The variable(x) is a real number.

Given, 5x−3<7

= 5x−3+3<7+3

= 5x<10

Dividing both sides of the equation by the non-negative number. We get:

= 5x5<105

= x<2

(i) lntegers smaller than 2 are 0,1,-1,-2,-3,-4…………

Solution set {0, 1,-1,-2,-3,-4,…..}

(ii) Considering the variable(x) is a real number, the solution set of the given inequality is x∈−∞,2.
