Multiplying both sides by x+1 yields:

2=4-x

∴ x=4-2=2

Hope this helps :)

x = 2

\dfrac{2}{x+1} = \dfrac{4-x}{x+1}

Since both have a common denominator, they get cancelled. Hence we get,

2 = 4 - x

⇒ 2 - 4 = -x

⇒ -x = -2

⇒ x = 2
