a) x -5 = 7

x = 7 +5

x = 12

x -5 = 7

12 -5 = 7

7 = 7

Hence, LHS = RHS.

b) 7 +x = -2

x = -2 -7

x = -9

7 +x = -2

7 +(-9) = -2

7 -9 = -2

-2 = -2

Hence, LHS = RHS

Step-by-step explanation:

a) \: x - 5 = 7 \\ x = 7 + 5 \\ x = 12 \\  \\ b) \: 7 + x =  - 2 \\ x =  - 2 - 7 \\ x =  - 9

Verification:

a) \: x = 12 \\ 12 - 5 = 7 \\ 7 = 7 \\ lhs = rhs \\  \\ b) \: x =  - 9 \\ 7 + ( - 9) =  - 2 \\ 7 - 9 =  - 2 \\  - 2 =  - 2 \\ lhs = rhs

hope it helps
