Answer:

4x-3y=8

x-2y=-3 or x=2y-3

placing the value of x in eq 1

4(2y-3)-3y=8

8y-3y-12=8

5y=20

y=4

thus x=2*4-3

=8-3

=5

Question

solve the following linear equation by substitution method

4x-3y=8

x-2y=-3

Solution

Given:-

  • 4x - 3y = 8 -----------(1)
  • x - 2y = -3 --------------(2)

Find:-

  • Value of x & y

Explanation

Substitution method

By , equation (1)

==> 4x = 8 + 3y

==> x = (8 + 3y)/4 -------------(3)

Substitute value of x in equ(2),

==> (8+3y)/4 - 2y = -3

==> 8 + 3y - 8y = -12

==> 8 - 5y = -12

==> 5y = 8 + 12

==> y = 20/5

==>y = 4

keep value of y in equ(3),

==> x = [8+3*4 ]/4

==> x = [8 + 12]/4

==> x = 20/4

==>x = 5

Thus

  • Value of x = 5
  • Value of y = 4

Answer verification

Keep value of x & y in equ(2)

==>5 - 2 * 4 = -3

==> 5 - 8 = -3

==> -3 = -3

L.H.S. = R.H.S.

That's proved.
