Solve the following numerical:
During a thunderstorm, the thunder is heard 4.5 seconds after the flash of lightning is seen. If the speed of sound is 330 m/s, find the distance at which lightning took place.​

Solution:

thunder is heard 4.5 seconds after the flash of lightning is seen

speed of sound is 330m/s,

We can ignore the time of flash to travel as it will be in nano seconds

Hence  Directly using Distance = speed x time

= 330 x 4.5

= 1485 m

distance at which lightning took place = 1485 m  or 1.485 km
