Solution of pair of linear equations 2x + 5y = 3 and 7x – 2y = 4 is (2/3, 1/3).

Given:

  • Pair of linear equations.
  • 2x + 5y = 3 and 7x - 2y = 4

To find:

  • Solution of linear equation using Elimination Method.

Solution:

Concept to be used:

In elimination method; firstly equate the coefficient of one variable, then after cancel out that by addition or subtraction; find the value of other variable.

Step 1:

Find the value of x.

Let

2x + 5y = 3...eq1 \\

7x - 2y = 4...eq2\\

Multiply eq1 by 2 and eq2 by 5.

4x + 10y = 6...eq3

35x - 10y = 20...eq4 \\

Add eq3 and eq4.

4x + 10y = 6 \\ 35x - 10y = 20 \\  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  \\ 39x = 26 \\

or

x =  \frac{26}{39}  \\

or

\bf x =  \frac{2}{3}  \\

Step 2:

Find the value of y.

Put the value of x in eq1.

2 \times  \frac{2}{3}  + 5y = 3 \\

or

5y = 3 -  \frac{4}{3}  \\

or

5y =  \frac{9 - 4}{3}  \\

or

\bf y =  \frac{1}{3}  \\

Thus,

Solution of linear equations is  \bf \left( \frac{2}{3},  \frac{1}{3}  \right) \\ .
