x = 1.68

y = 1.38

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following pair of equations :- 7x-2y=9  and  4x+6y=15 .

And we have to find the value of x and y using substitution method.

Substitution method means that taking the value of one variable from the equation and then substituting that value of variable in another equation.

First equation is given by;

                            7x-2y=9

                            7x=9+2y

                              x=\frac{9+2y}{7} ------------------ [Equation 1]

Second equation is given by;

                             4x+6y=15  ----------------- [Equation 2]

Now, substituting the value of x from equation 1 into equation 2, we get;

                             4\times (\frac{9+2y}{7})+6y=15

                              (\frac{36+8y}{7})+6y=15

                               \frac{36+8y}{7}+\frac{42y}{7} =15

                                \frac{36+8y+42y}{7} =15

                                  \frac{36+50y}{7} =15

                              36+50y =15\times 7

                               36+50y =105

                                  50y=105-36

                                  50y=69

                                   y=\frac{69}{50} = 1.38

Now, putting value of y in equation 1, we get;

                                  x=\frac{9+2y}{7}

                                  x=\frac{9+2(1.38)}{7}

                                  x=\frac{11.76}{7} = 1.68

Therefore, value of x = 1.68 and  y = 1.38.
