Multilpy Equation 1 by 3

It becomes

15x - 12y = 12 \:  \:  \:  \: ....(3)

Subtract equation 2 from 3

14x =  - 8

or

x =  \frac{ - 4}{7}

Put the value of x in any of the equation 1 or 2 and obtain y.
