Solution:

Given system of equations:

x + y/2 = 1

=> x = 1-y/2

=> x = (2-y)/2 ---(1)

and

x/3 + 17y/6 = 3 ---(2)

Substitute (1) in equation (2), we get

=> [(2-y)/2]/3 +17y/6 = 3

=> (2-y)/6+17y/6 = 3

multiply each term by 6 , we get

=> 2-y + 17y = 18

=> 2+16y = 18

=> 16y = 18-2

=> 16y = 16

=> y = 16/16

=> y = 1

Now ,

substitute y=1, in equation (1),

we get

x = (2-1)/2

=> x = 1/2

Therefore,

x = 1/2 , y = 1
