Solve the following pair of linear equations by the elimination method:
x+y=14
x-y=4

Solution :

Given two pair of linear

equations are,

x+y = 14 ----( 1 )

x - y = 4 ----( 2 )

Add ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) , we get

2x = 18

=> x = 18/2

=> x = 9

Substitute x = 9 in equation

( 1 ) , we get

=> 9 + y = 14

=> y = 14 - 9

=> y = 5

Therefore ,

x = 9 , y = 5
