x + 2y = 9 ----(i)

2x - y = 8 -----(ii)

(ii) *2 , (i) is added to (ii)

4x - 2y = 16

x + 2y = 9

5x = 25

x = 5

Putting the value of x in (i),

5 +2y = 9

2y = 4

y = 2
