p^2x^2 + p^2x - q^2x - q^2 =0
p^2x ( x+1) - q^2(x+1) =0
(p^2x - q^2)(x+1) =0
(x+1)(p^2x-q^2)=0

so the roots are x= -1 and x = q^2 / p^2
hope it helps.
