1) x + y = 14 => 1

x - y = 4 => 2

x + y = 14

\boxed{\text{x = 14 - y = 1}}

apply 1 in 2

x - y = 4

14 - y - y = 4

14 - 2y = 4

-2y = 4 - 14

-2y = -10

y \ =  \frac{10}{ - 2}  = 5 \\

\boxed{\text{ y = 5}}

apply y in 1

x + y = 14

x + 5 = 14

x = 14 - 5

\boxed{\text{ x = 9}}
