Solution:

let eq. (1) be x+y= 7.and eq. (2) be 2x-y= 20

now in (1),

x+y= 7

x= 7-y.....(3)

substituting the value of x in (2),

2x-y= 20

2(7-y) -y=20

14-2y-y=20

14-3y=20

-3y=20-14

-3y=6

y=6/-3=-2

now,

substituting value of y in (3),

x=7-y

x=7+2

x=9

therefore,.

(x,y)=(9,-2,)

hope this helps!!

x = 7 - y

putting in second equation

2(7 - y) - y = 20

find y

y =  - 2

put in 1st equation

x = 7 - ( - 2)

x=9

PrathmeshPimpalkar: thanks so much
