Question :-

solve the following simultaneous equation in two variables by the method of comparison solve the following simultaneous equation.

2x - 3y = 8

(x + y)/(x - y) = 7/3

Required Answer :-

2x - 3y = 8 -(i)

(x + y)/(x - y) = 7/3

3(x + y) = 7(x - y)

3x + 3y = 7x - 7y

0 = 7x - 3x -7y - 3y

0 = 4x - 10y

4x - 10y = 0

2x - 5y = 0 -(Divide by 2) -(ii)

subtracting equation (i) from (ii)

2x - 5y = 0

- 2x + 3y = -8

___________

- 2y = - 8

2y = 8

y = 8/2

y = 4

put y = 4 in equation (i)

2x - 3y = 8

2x - 3(4) = 8

2x - 12 = 8

2x = 8 + 12

2x = 20

x = 20/2

x = 10

therefore solution for (x, y) is (10,4)
