multiply eqn 1 by 3 and eqn 2 by 4

x+ 3y = 10 and 8x + y = 11

now multiply 2nd eqn by 3 and subtract from 1st eqn

x+ 3y - 24x -3y = 10 -11

-23 x = -1

x = 1/23

putting in 1 we get

1/ 23 + 3y = 10

3y = 10- 1/23

3y = 229/23

y = 229/ 46.

hope it helps
