1. (a) x + y =10
x-y=12

x + y = 10

x - y = 12

(we should change the sign of down equation so it become)

- x + y = - 12

2y = -2

y = -2/2

y = -1

Substituting the value of y = -1 in equation 1 one.

x + y = 10

x + (-1) = 10

x - 1 = 10

x = 10 + 1

x = 11
